Third-Party Carrier Boards

The Modalix SoM uses the same 260-pin SODIMM form factor as the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and Orin Nano, so a carrier board built for those modules can be a starting point for your product or a reference for your own design. This page compares the interfaces on eight of them.

Form factor is not validation

SiMa.ai has brought up the Modalix SoM on the Waveshare board, the Connect Tech Boson-22, and the Seeed Studio reComputer J401. The other boards are listed for their form factor and have not been tested with the Modalix SoM. Verify electrical pin compatibility between the SoM and the carrier board before connecting them, and expect to adapt the device tree. See Carrier Board Bring-up.

How to Read the Specifications

  • The values are what each vendor lists for its board. Check the vendor's current documentation before you buy, because board revisions change.
  • A dash (—) in the comparison, or an item missing from a board's specifications, means that this page has no value for that item. It does not mean that the board lacks the interface.
  • A connector on the carrier board does not mean that the interface works with the Modalix SoM. Which interfaces work depends on what the SoM routes to the connector and on the device tree. See Carrier Board Bring-up and Low-Speed I/O.
  • The Modalix SoM column shows what the SoM supports for each interface. Supported means that the SoM brings the interface out to its connector. Carrier-dependent means that the interface may need configuration or software changes for your board. Not supported means that the interface does not work with the Modalix SoM, whatever the carrier board provides. Not confirmed means that this page has no information.

Available Boards

Select a board name to view its specifications. The ordering column gives the vendor's part number, where this page has one, and the vendor's product page.

The boards are the Waveshare JETSON-ORIN-IO-BASE-H, AVerMedia D131L, Auvidea JNX40S, Connect Tech Boson-22, D3 Embedded DesignCore Jetson Orin NX 8-Camera GMSL2 Carrier Board, Diamond Systems JAX-BB01 (Jackson), Leopard Imaging LI-ONX-CB-4CAM-FP, and Seeed Studio reComputer J401.

The Waveshare board is the reference carrier board. Its full component list is in Carrier Board Bring-up.

Check the supported modules

Leopard Imaging lists the LI-ONX-CB-4CAM-FP for the Jetson Orin NX only, and warns that it can damage a Jetson Orin Nano module. Ask the vendor before you connect a Modalix SoM to it.

The Modalix SoM Rev 2 brings out four MIPI CSI interfaces with 2 lanes each. It does not support a 4-lane MIPI CSI connection, because two independent 2-lane controller paths cannot be combined into a single 4-lane path. Camera support also depends on the sensor driver and overlay. See MIPI Camera Interfaces.
